A Career That Makes a Difference

The HealthStaff Training Institute’s Phlebotomy Technician I certificate course is designed to train students with the skills and knowledge to perform skin and Venipuncture procedures in a safe clinical environment. This course is approved by the California Department of Health Services, Laboratory Field Services Division and upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a National Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician I as well as State of California Phlebotomy License.

The HealthStaff Training Institute’s students receive instruction in the procedures of Phlebotomy and are required to participate in a minimum 40-hour externship in a CDPH approved facility. Upon completion of the Phlebotomy Technician I program, students will take the National Certification Exam, and upon passing the National Exam will have their documentation submitted to the state for State Certification/License.

Our training provides students with the vital skill sets needed to secure employment at any healthcare or medical facility where Phlebotomy techniques are required and performed.

Question: What are the eligibility criteria to enroll in the Phlebotomy Technician Course? 

Answer: Applying to phlebotomy training programs is incredibly straightforward. You simply need a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a great attitude to kickstart your education. We recommend some experience in the medical field or certificates like a medical assistant.

Question: How long is the Phlebotomy Technician Course? 

Answer: We offer both Weekday as well as weekend classes. 

Question: Is externship covered in the program? 

Answer: Yes, an externship is part of the program. After the conclusion of your classroom portion, we arrange for your externship at medical facilities like hospitals, medical groups, and labs.
